Once in a while

On a cold, overcast evening, driving home from work,

Strapped to the seat of my car, in my beloved Delhi,

Eyes fuzzy with sleep, body fatigued,

Mind, a clutter of thoughts,

Random, choc-a-block,

Like the vehicles all around,

I maneuver my gaze all across,

For a few, idle seconds,

Till it fixates on the pillion of a bike.

A thin veil over her face, drenched, blown away,

Mesmerizing embers of passion, meet mine,

A quiver pulsates through my spine,

A thousand doves flutter in my heart,

Once in a while……..

The green emeralds seize me,

Dragging me to the bottom of the lake,

I, her prisoner, liberated from the world,

For the eternity of that moment,

Wish, it could last forever,

But Alas! soon it was all over,

As the traffic eased,

And I was shaken from my reverie,

By the honking of horns,

As she set me free, into my prison,

Once in a while………
