Shadows

By

Overlooking my beautiful home,

In the sprawling, well-manicured garden,

Nine, wizened old gems are emblazoned,

On each of whose massive trunks,

Settles a crown of leaves- hefty and dense,

More grand than that of an Emperor…….

One of the nine ratnas- or jewels/ gems- clicked by me……

The garden is covered with a carpet of lush grass,

On which dazzling peacocks stroll lazily,

And naughty squirrels create mirth,

Which feed hungry honeybees,

And on which fascinating butterflies dance……

One of the many which enhance the beauty of our township near Bina, a small railway junction between Delhi and Bhopal….clicked by me….

On this carpet- peppered with a range of vibrant flowers,

Under a symphony played by an array of birds,

A mesmerizing pattern of shadows is laid out- ever-changing,

Drawn alternately- and sometimes in unison,

By the Sun and the Moon,

Each wielding its own brush, and set of colors,

Luminescent & oozing with romance, when the Moon is full,

Eerie & scary, when the Moon has taken a sabbatical,

Bright and full of mirth, on a Sunny day,

Dull and gloomy, when the Sun & clouds play hide and seek…..

The range of flowers in the various gardens and open spaces of the township is indeed fabulous…clicked by me…..

Making me wonder, as to how, or rather who,

Can conceive, and implement this magic,

With such dexterity and firmness of hand, and mind,

That it doesn’t falter even once…..

But no matter for how long, or how often,

I ponder to seek an answer to this riddle,

Each time I end up being a seeker,

Standing at the very point from where I began my search,

Left forever to admire this majestic spectacle of celestial art,

As it unfolds before my eyes-an inconsequential blob of water,

Fleeting through time on a blue oyster,

Floating around an ordinary star, in a small galaxy,

Tucked in a remote corner of the vast emptiness of this Universe…..

Your humble friend…..clicked by Sonia…..my best half….

The following lines were composed by Guru Nanak Dev ji.

Gagan mein thaal rav chand deepak bane
    Tarka mandal janak moti
Dhoop mal aanlo pawan chavaro kare
    Sagal banrai phoolant jyoti
Kaisi aarti hove bhavkhandna teri aarti

The Sky is Your platter,The sun and moon are the β€˜Deepaks’ the lamps (lights),The Stars in the sky are the pearls,The β€˜Dhoop’ (Incense) is the fragrance,That the wind propels,The whole forest is Your flowers.
O! What a wonderful Aarti, this is!

Although I listen to The aarti everyday, I have not been able to link it to my search…..for that I needed your guidance—always grateful—-my guiding light…

These townships have a life of their own, far from the madding crowd. The beauty of nature is so close and it makes one so happy.
A beautiful description of the Gems that you are lucky to witness. Keep going Prince🌷🌷🌷
