Let Aruna Die

By

A petite Aruna, born on 1st June 1948, before the heinous crime

The heart wrenching saga of Aruna was driving me crazy,

It occupied every nook and cranny of my mind,

I was in spiritual turmoil, as I tried to fathom,

The reasons behind this most bizarre and cruel incident…..

One day, I was alone in the house,

Wrapped in stillness, basking in solitude,

The silence, a balm for my frayed nerves,

And then, loneliness struck,

Head on, like a wily shark,

A pack of ravenous hyenas,

Vultures gliding high in the sky,

And the silence, ominous,

Threatening to smash the core of my sensibilities…..

A wily shark, attacking my sensibilities

Hastily, I managed to escape,

From the clutches of this fast encircling madness,

And reclaim my sanity…………….

Only to think again, about Aruna,

The ultimate victim of destiny,

Imprisoned in a hospital bed,

For decades on end, with nothing to look up to,

Other than the ceiling of the room….

Aruna in coma- the incident happened in 1973

Not the daily Magic of the rising sun,

Not the Romance of the mystical moon,

Not the Grandeur of the oceans,

With nothing to feel,

Not the First drops of a monsoon shower,

Not the Fragrance of the flowers,

Not the Essence of the spring breeze,

With nothing to share,

Not the Lullaby of a mother,

Not the Love of a sweetheart,

Not the Banter of a friend……

As to whether she would still harbor a desire,

Any desire, the desire to live, or perish,

If only we could know, but only if she could speak,

And we could listen, to what she wants to say……….

Aruna died 42 years after the gruesome incident on 18th May 2015

The message in her life is a deep scar on the face of humanity….

It was one of the most daunting incident of our growing up period…Definitely not happy to recall

Your poetic expression of her pain and silence is heart-wrenching…yet a motivational reminder to nurture the goodness and fight against the menace of abuse πŸ™

The anguish, pain of the mind appearing to be still for so long, yet deep inside the mind is in turmoil, agitated like lava simmering deep inside volcano. It needs to erupt thru our mind, soul and action, so that the society changes. Very expressive content from writer / poet.

The anguish and pathos cometh forth, like the wily shark with barred teeth,
The heart and mind cries foul,
    The perpetrators Rot in hell.

Very heartfelt and melancholy poem. Perpetrators of violence against women always go unpunished. Not much has changed even in this day and age, despite such sad incidents.

You have started using the genre of poetry very sensibly now
There is a perfect blend of stark realism on one side and romanticism( describing the various of nuances of Nature)
Very sombre portrayal of a very ghastly incident victim! Takes courage!

Very Sad, really no words to express, the Male who indulges in this cowardly act went away free. Whether it be a Crime committed on the Spur of the moment or orchestrated rapes in pogroms, Women are the worst affected. Humanity will remember the day when there are no crimes against Women. Powerfully expressed Poem.
